This is for any Guider or member of the Senior Section who wishes to
- gain experience of walking in Wild country
- get an idea of the Walking Scheme at Level 3
- walking for pleasure in Remote country
This weekend is designed to give Guiders and members of the Senior Section the opportunity to develop their walking skills and confidence in Remote country. Your previous experience should equate to that of Level 2 of the Walking Scheme and you should be prepared for some tough walking in difficult conditions if the weather is bad. This is a very relaxed weekend with the emphasis on walking for pleasure. No formal training sessions will be given but you will benefit from the knowledge and experience of our trainers.
The weekend will be based in a Guide Hall, a short drive from the Black Mountain. The accommodation is basic - sleeping on the floor in a warm hall. There is hot water but no showers. The kitchen is equipped with a microwave, oven and fridge. We cater for ourselves individually but usually have a take-away on the Saturday evening.
As much time as possible will be spent out walking. You will gain experience in:
- route planning in Wild country
- walking skills
- navigation techniques
- weather
